Today let’s talk about putting yourself out there and getting people to know your services and products, shall we?

There is a whole lot that goes into spreading the word about what you do and what you offer, right? You are doing it all, stretching those visibility muscles and you are out there making moves.

πŸ‘€ People are interested, they are curious, they are following along, clicking the links and…. they are landing on your site.πŸ‘πŸΌ

Now didja know that:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ A blog post is mostly likely to be THE first landing place for new people on your site?

As in, this is the first impression they get from you and your business! Not your home page, not your services page, not your about page. Nope. The blog.

πŸ₯€ Sadly {and alarming even} is that blogs tend to be THE most neglected part of people’s websites.

There’s content being created, new posts published, they are active, rolling and happening but they are far from supporting the business owners goals. Worse yet — blogs can even be working against them

{remember the sales page working against the sale? same, same}

πŸ‘‡πŸΌ Now let me break it down WHY your blog is so crucial for a lasting and favorable first impression.

πŸ’­ Imagine a few scenarios:

  • people google something, a home deco DIY or a recipe for instance, and videos and articles show up in the search
  • someone who has been doing this A-mazing meditation for the last 3 days just *needs* to tell everyone of their recent discovery so they post the link to it on facebook
  • you have been spreading the word out in the socials and you just posted an article about taking breaks and staying focused during long days at work. {with a “link in bio” CTA, because of course ;)}

πŸ”— And better yet, in the google search, in the friend recommendation or in your own social media efforts, people are clicking where they are suppose to click! And what do they see then?

πŸŽ₯The videos are most likely directly posted on YouTube. So there’s where they will immediately land. If that video is well set up and optimized, there will be more info in the description with links to the offering related to it {free or paid} or to the full article on the creator’s own site.

πŸ“ Now said articles – clicked directly from the search, posted on the socials or linked to videos – are blog posts. And now they are coming to your site to check things out, for the first time! And they land on…. {the quiz again >>} your about page? your service page? your home page?

No, of course not. They land on that single article {blog post} that is talking about the specific topic they were looking for.

 

🧐And so their first experience and impression of your site is through that individual blog post.

 

Who’d have thought? 😏 The home page is supposed to be the main entrance of the site, isn’t it? Like a beautifully decorated and thought-out living room, the first entrance to the home…. Yeah, unfortunately not. It would make sense to assume so but in practical terms, an individual blog post is most likely how new people will land on your site for the first time.

Now, this is not by all means a bad thing!

πŸ’₯This is just something extremely important and powerful to keep in mind.

Because even thou, people could just click through your tabs and get to know you from the other snazzy, on-brand and styled pages of your site, the reality is…. they might not even get to it. 😳

They might land on that blog posts and… bounce off.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Outdated, crowded and confusing blog designs will actually do a disservice to you and distract from the main content that you so carefully crafted. Confusion and feeling turned off by outdated visuals is a sure fire way to have people bounce off or close the window all together – and worse, discredit what they were excited to learn about a few mins ago

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ In a better case scenario thou, lets say they didn’t get turned off by your blog right away, they didn’t bounce off and they finished reading the whole article {or watching the video}. Then what? Is it clear what is the next step they need to take? If not, they might enjoy the content and still close the window right after it. Confusion {again} and lack of direction are not how people engage.

🚨 The other day I saw one of those common mistakes business owners do that you need to be aware of so you don’t fall for it either.

I was about to buy a program online from a person that I’ve been following for a long time.

That program is evergreen {meaning it is open for enrollment year-round} but she only promotes it once in a while.

I’ve seen her talking about it before so I knew what the program was about however this time…

πŸ†β­It felt like the program was created for me, and for me only!

You know when you get so much clarity on who your people are, what they need, how you can help them and you reflect that exact clarity on every word of your copy? That’s what was happening there.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Now, what is interesting here is that I’ve seen her selling that program before, many times. I’ve alway thought it was an interesting program but not THAT interesting or needed for me to actually sign up for it.

πŸ’΅ This time though, I couldn’t click through the links fast enough.

I was *ready* to hit that buy button!

Yet as I clicked through and landed on her sales page and started reading it, that same feeling from before came through of β€œmmmmm, this is cool… but I am not sure about it. I’ll think about it.”

And so I closed the window and went on with my day.

🀨 What happened there?
πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Her site’s copy was not up to speed with her new positioning, new approach and new language she was using in her socials. It was not reflecting that deep understanding of her client she was showing in the socials.

And so when I, a potential client, who was so resonating with the offer that couldn’t wait to join in, clicked through one platform to the other, I started wondering how it wasn’t feeling for me anymore and it all fell flat.

🚨And this , is such a common mistake I see business owners doing out there.πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

They learn and fine tune their message A LOT through interactions on the socials and from feedback from actual students but the sales page never reflects that progress. And that old initial {most likely stiff} copy never gets to be adjusted.

That’s where the dissonance happened. A potential client {me!} went from a β€œshe’s taking to me, she knows me. I need this!” perception to a β€œoh ok, cool… maybe later”.

A sales page working against our business is not what we are in for!

🌟 So take the time , use all that new found clarity and understanding of your offer and your clients to update your sales page -- have it match where your program is at, where your clients are at so all the sweat, tears and efforts you are putting on promoting your program, does not fall flat when people land in your sales page.

 

πŸ“ŒRemember that sites are not static.

They are far from being a β€œset and done” kind of thing. They will move and change according to your business flow and evolution. And that includes, in special, the sales pages of your programs and services.

πŸŽ€ A side note in case you feel too discouraged with the *perceived* amount of work to update your site >> you don’t need a complete revamp to keep your site up to date. If your design and layout have been strategic from the beginning, all you will have to do is fine tune your copy and change key elements throughout. Your copy being the most important here {this coming from a designer so you know it’s real πŸ˜‰ } See what new language you have been putting out there and bring it into your site. Use the words your clients actually use {even if you’d have chosen more elaborate and formal ones} and see the difference it will make!

On my last post I talked about how our sites can become a resource-filled library not just for our community but for ourselves.

πŸ“šOur websites can become this never ending source of content ideas to feed any new or old social media platform.

🧐 But how does that work exactly?

 

1. You pour out the wisdom

Say that you have been posting articles, podcasts, videos, etc on your blog. And you go all in on those posts! You pour all your heart, soul and wisdom on each and every post/video/podcast.

The “how to” or “myths debunked” or “3-step process” or even a simple insightful story that you just experienced, they are all there.

 

2. You split them up and break them down

Now the beauty {and tragedy sometimes} is that social media platforms are fast moving and people’s attention spam is barely there. So when creating for the socials, content needs to be short.

That long post you did giving the “3-step process”? You can easily break it down into three different pieces of content. Holding people’s hand and walking them through each single step.

 

3. Adapt to the platform you are in and post it

Now besides breaking the post down into diff pieces of content you intentionally let people know that follow up steps are coming along. You let them know that you are presenting a series to get the whole “3-step process” and piece by piece of it is being released. << THAT peeks curiosity, interest and even eagerness to see your next piece. Which then creates engagement in your platform, which makes your content more visible to new people {algorithms!} That one post about “myths debunked”? Oh, how people LOVE those on social media! Depending on how many myths in one post, you can easily break them down in different posts. Do you have 4 myths on the post? That makes 4 separate pieces of content in the socials. Even the insightful story that you might think is too long and there is no way to translate that into a short form for the socials, can be easily done >> Set the tone on what was happening before the insight, what lead you to it, the process of it and the result of it. Each one a separate content AND each one leading to the next.

 

4. Rinse and repeat!

And when you have no idea what to post in the socials? Dig in your old posts, and from 2-3 of them you can easily create 4-6 pieces of content. Easy like that — adapting and repurposing from what you had already created.

So , if you haven’t been blogging in a while OR haven’t started one yet, roll up your sleeves. It is time!!

Have you been following all the happenings with TikTok? As in, the TikTok CEO in Congress today trying to save that potential ban in USA?

I’ll be bummed out if that goes through because even thou I’ve never used it for my own business, surprisingly enough I’ve learned a lot of from that platform, specially from social activists.

{I promised you love, if you have never been on the app or hadn’t logging in in a while those silly dances TikTok was know for have been long gone!}

Back to the point – those new creators and social activists I found…

I did notice quite a few of them starting the debate of the dreadful “now what?” if the app gets banned.

And I thought that was a good time to bring back the topic of…

🏑There is no place like home!

You online home there is.

That one online home where you can build and create the way you want, without any concerns that all the sweat and tears poured into it could be taken down out of the blue, you know?

Meaning: Your website.

There is no doubt that social media is an excellent tool to spread the word out there about our mission, work, and services.

But to rely on it as the *only* way for people to get to know you and interact with your content? By all means, no.

As we have seen time and time again — it’s not reliable in the slightest.

{Remember the Twitter melt down not that long ago? The one when Elon Musk took over?}

Those kind of changes will continue to happen and leaving our content at the mercy of other people’s business is not the way go.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Continually using and adapting to those platforms to keep bringing eyes to our content and services? Yes, always! It’s free marketing, why wouldn’t we use it?

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ But relying on them as the SOLE way to have our community learn from us? Again – no.

Always and forever remember :

πŸ“Your site is your own.

It can’t be taken from you. Years of content poured are safe and sound over there and can be highlighted, re-hashed, brought back to light fully or just pieces, in any way you like at any given moment. You are the one to define it.

AND if you are steady pouring content into it {your blog!}, it becomes a forever growing library of your own that when a any social media platform needs content, you can easily find it by browsing through your own library and get the content you need to post and repurpose.

Don’t neglect it! Your blog is a crucial and potent ally in your site that supports your business!

Because…
πŸ‘‰πŸΌ As personal brands and/or service providers, a website makes it official and “out in the open” what we do, what we stand for, our expertise and how said expertise is valuable to others.

When a website is published and going live it makes it official that we are now open to being seeing, visible to anyone and everyone and…. judged.

Yet, the beautiful thing of going through the motions of it and getting to hit that publish button is the clarity that needs to come alongclarity on our purpose, mission and all that we have to offer inside of them.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Because without crystal clear clarity on those things we can’t even begin to start writing copy inside each page of the site.

And once that clarity is there, we are not even done…

We have to OWN it.
Own what we do and create.

That means being comfortable:

πŸ”₯ talking about why OUR uniqueness is what the prospect client needs.
πŸ”₯ standing by the results people will get after working with us.
πŸ”₯ highlighting our experience, background and expertise.
πŸ”₯ overall tooting our own horns and of our services and products.

It is a lot!

It is not something we were taught to do on the regular {quite the opposite for women even!} and having to do it all in writing and on our own?
